Upper Dolpo Trekking is known as the Shey Gompa trekking, which lies in the northwestern part of Nepal. The trekkers , who like to trek in the remote and less visited area, this is the most suitable trekking for them. Due to the remoteness and high altitude, yaks are the means of transportation in this region, which is also depicted in the Hollywood movie Yak caravans.

The Upper Dolpo Trekking goes through the Shey Phoksundo National Park, which is a homeland of various rare wild animals, including the Snow Leopard. Crossing the Lower Dolpo Trekking route from Juphal and enjoying the views of the Phoksundo Lake and its surrounding, it heads through the Phoksundo Khola. Crossing the Kang La Pass, you can reach to the Shey Gompa, which is one of the major attraction of the trek in Upper Dolpo. The lifestyles of the local people are influenced by the Tibetan culture and lifestyles. Many Tibetans are found visiting the mystical valleys. The landacape is arid that is contrasted with the fertile lower valleys. Other windswept high passes in this region are Saldang La and Jeng La Pass. Trekking further through the Yak grazing meadows and alpine forests, the trekking offers the unique experiences as if walking on a piece of heaven.

Spring, autumn and monsoon are the best seasons to trek in the Upper Dolpo region, which is the rain shadow area. Snow View Treks have the local guides so you can have more information about the local geography. Please, contact us to organize your trekking trips in the Dolpo region.
